Tsunami Conspiracy Theory (Part II)

My hits are skyrocketing because people keep typing in Tsunami Conspiracy Theory into Google/Yahoo/MSN/AOL etc. Although I'm only playing devil's advocate it seems like there are other peoplke out there thinking the same thing. That doesn't say much for Bush's popularity rating does it?

There are at least 155,000 confirmed dead.

Here's the original post:

The death toll has rocketed to 114,000. Indonesia has just discovered 28,000 bodies in Sumatra. This is a natural disaster of catastrophic proportions. I imagine that the death toll will be in excess of 200,000 by this time next week.

As I mentioned before this appears to be a natural disaster, however the conspiracy portion of my brain wonders if this natural disaster wasn't so natural.

Here's an interesting scenario to nibble on:

The Bush junta is tired of explaining itself to the media. Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney and Rice are sick of the liberals in this country pointing out how many American lives are being lost in Iraq...

...Bush and his cronies devise a cunning and dastardly plan. In order to take people's minds off of Iraq why not create a natural disaster? We've done underwater nuclear weapons tests before (see Bikini Atoll) and they have a significant seismic effect. Is it then possible that the Bush regime detonated a large nuclear device on the ocean floor off the coast of Indonesia? After all, a natural disaster of these proportions certainly takes your mind off Iraq...

With Bush and his cronies calling the shots anything is possible...

UPDATE --01/03/04--

I created the Tsunami Conspiracy Theory for three reasons:

(1) there are always conspiracy theories after catastrophes and
(2) (motive) Bush wants our minds off Iraq
(3) we have the technology to create tsunamis.

To create a seismic disturbance of this magnitude all you need is an powerful energy source placed between the tectonic plates.

To add more credence to the conspiracy theory...there are no tsunami beacons in the Indian Ocean. The lack of beacons makes it the perfect place to get away with testing a seismic nuclear device or an electromagnetic device such as HAARP*. HAARP, from what is known about it, would not seem like the most suitable device to create a seismic disturbance. HAARP was created to disturb global communications via an electromagnetic pulse. It was also part of the SDI. HAARP can easily disrupt weather patterns so you definitely don’t want a HAARP tower in your backyard.

Now to address these posters. Notice how the people who post their comments anonymously usually say the most ridiculous shit...like this guy:

Thanks 'Anonymous' person. Or are you anonymous? Nope...you're not...I've got your IP and location. In terms of the nuclear device, it is entirely plausible scenario. To get the plates moving and create a seismic disturbance all you need is a large amount of energy concentrated in a small area. 25 megatons (one warhead) would do the trick.

Sorry people, (1) It would take several hundred nuclear bombs all going off at the same time to cause such a movement of the tetonic (sic) plates and (2) George Bush is not the devil and the US is not the new evil empire. To think that we would do such a thing, even if it were possible is sick. The US has done more to save this world than any other nation. Another jingoistic idiot. I disagree with "George Bush is not the devil", I think he probably is. After all, he flaunts his Christian faith to get elected but doesn’t practice what he preaches. George W. Bush paid for his ex-girlfriend to have an abortion. Should such a strong anti-abortion advocate have done that? How many Christians sentence hundreds of Texas death row inmates to die? How many inmates received clemency? Doesn't the Bible mention forgiveness? How many people has Bush forgiven? How many Christians use their religion to divide the United States? How many Christians are incapable of compassion?

Bush is a sociopath. He's incapable of admitting guilt. He's incapable of admitting weakness. He's incapable of constructing a grammatically correct sentence, and he's incapable of leading the greatest nation in the world. The only time Bush speaks passionately is when he’s speaking about revenge or punishment. He’s pathological.

Project HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) is a US Air Force, Navy and University of Alaska funded investigation to "understand, simulate and control ionospheric processes that might alter the performance of communication and surveillance systems" started in 1993 for a proposed twenty year series of experiments.

Characteristics

The investigation site is near Gakona, Alaska (lat. 62.39° N, long 145.15° W). An extensive array of 180 aerial towers is in the process of being erected at a initial cost of $30m to make the phased array transmitter, named the Ionospheric Research Instrument (IRI). HAARP is the third US ionospheric research site, the others are near the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico and near Fairbanks, Alaska. A European research station is based near Tromsø in Norway. The principal European and US HAARP sites are located in high latitudes as the auroral region provides a very wide variety of ionospheric conditions to study, as well as quiet locations away from the electromagnetic interference produced by big cities.

Stated Objectives

The HAARP project aims to direct a 3.6 MW pulse in the 2.8-10 MHz bandwidth into the ionosphere and then to examine the effects of the pulse and the recovery period using associated radar equipment. According to the HAARP team, this will advance the study of basic natural processes that occur in the ionosphere under the natural but much stronger influence of solar interaction, as well as how the natural ionosphere affects radio signals. This will enable scientists to develop techniques to mitigate these effects in order to improve the reliability and/or performance of communication and navigation systems, which would have a wide range of applications in both the civilian and military sectors.

The project is funded by the Office of Naval Research and jointly managed by the ONR and Air Force Research Laboratory, with the principal involvement of the University of Alaska. Fourteen other universities and educational institutions have been involved in the development of the project and its instruments, namely the University of Alaska, Penn State University (ARL), Boston College, UCLA, Clemson University, Dartmouth College, Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, University of Massachusetts, MIT, Polytechnic University, Stanford University, and the University of Tulsa.

The project's specifications were developed by the universities, which are continuing to play a major role in the design of future research efforts. There is both military and commercial interest in its outcome, as many communications and navigation systems depend on signals being reflected from the ionosphere or passing through the ionosphere to satellites.

Weapon

The objectives of the HAARP project became the subject of controversy in the mid-1990s, following claims that the antennas could be used as a weapon. A small group of American physicists aired complaints in scientific journals such as Physics and Society, charging that HAARP could be seeking ways to blow other countries' spacecraft out of the sky or disrupt communications over large portions of the planet. The physicist critics of HAARP have had little complaint about the project's current stage, but have expressed fears that it could in future be expanded into an experimental weapon.
